September 2008

"So the holidays are over and the kids are back to their uniforms and the ways of school life. That doesn’t mean its all doom and gloom! Here on 106.7FM we’re having a Back To School party at the end of the month, so long as that rain doesn’t turn too heavy.”

[ ]Steiner Gallery
The best of the students’ artwork is showcased in the university’s own gallery. The modest space is open to the public and generates a decent revenue. It displays non-student artwork too, and most pieces on show can be purchased with a little bit of negotiation. What better way to ear some decent pocket money? But be warned that business isn’t exactly good these days.

[ ]Citadel Studios
The university has its own recording studios that it lets out to fee-paying civilians. Most days of the week its in use by the music students for coursework and practise. It’s well equipped and the recording of any instruments can be arranged with a few sweet conversations with the other departments.

[ ]Caverni Cinema
The Production Centre’s own cinema is a popular hotspot for students and the public alike. For the public, the small screen shows new productions by the students on a monthly basis. During the weeks it would normally remain inactive however, the students from every part of the university use its generous ‘TV’ for their own entertainment. Usually in the week it’s a quiet affair, but on the weekends the small cinema is generally quite popular. For the students, it shows the latest box office films.

[ ]White Line Theatre
The theatre is easily the building’s most active area. Whether its live performances or the weeks of endless rehersals that lead up to them, the departments of drama, music and dance all make use of the warming atmosphere. Every month or two there is a show of some form that is open to the public, and profits from the tickets go towards the upkeep of the rest of the building.

[ ]The Grounds
The Production Centre is, unsurprisingly, in the centre of the university campus. Surrounding it and the other buildings is a pretty limited amount of scenery. There’s the car parks, and the pathways, and the occasional shrubbery or tree, but for the most part the grounds of Provence - the inner city uni - are mostly stone paved. Beyond it's cast iron gates is inner city Marseille. Have fun!
